The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology

چکیده
What is it famous for? The MRC (Medical Research Council) Laboratory of Molecular Biology, or LMB, is the 'birthplace of molecular biology'. From humble beginnings in a temporary hut in Cambridge, UK, an extraordinarily talented group of scientists produced a series of breakthroughs, starting with Watson and Crick's Nobel prize-winning discovery of the double helix.

The prevalence of Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection in patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia hospitalized in intensive care unit
Background: Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is a type of hospital acquired pneumonia with the mortality rate between 27% and 76% that develops more than 48–72 h after endotracheal intubation. Possible causes leading to this infection can be Mycoplasma pneumoniae. The objective of this study was to determine the presence of Mycoplasma pneumoniae in bronchoalveolar samples of patients with ...
متن کاملProtein crystallization screens developed at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology
In order to solve increasingly challenging protein structures with crystallography, crystallization reagents and screen formulations are regularly investigated. Here, we briefly describe 96-condition screens developed at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology: the LMB sparse matrix screen, Pi incomplete factorial screens, the MORPHEUS grid screens and the ANGSTROM optimization screen. In this ...
متن کاملGiulio Fermi's contributions to biophysics and molecular biology
This paper presents a comprehensive list of the scientific articles of Giulio Fermi (1936-1997), son of the Italian-American physicist Enrico Fermi, published between 1962 and 1997. The initial research activity of Giulio was concerned with virology and biological cybernetics while, from 1975 onward, his work was completely devoted to protein crystallography. The crystallographic research was c...

متن کاملUse Of Razi Bovine Kidney Cell Line For Proliferation Of Pneumocystis Carinii
Background and Objective: Pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP) has been historically the most prevalent opportunisticinfection in patients infected with the human immunodeficiencyvirus. Culture of the organism has not been faced with suitable success in artificial media, while various results have been reported for cell culture media. The aim of this study was proliferation of Pneumocystis carin...
